Outfit of the Week

What can I say? I’m totally mad for plaid. And it’s fantastic how plaid continues to be trendy this spring. I paired my plaid dress with a blazer, making me office-ready. But in the evening I can easily remove the jacket and shake things up at happy hour.

I got the dress at Shopgoodwill.com for only $9. And can you believe it’s O’Neil – a surf brand? Be open minded, because you never know where you’re going to find the cutest fashion.

Now that I’m coveting all the great shirt dresses out there, I just had to pull out this white one from my closet. I have the brown version, too. I got this particular one at H&M a couple of years ago. They currently carry a similar one, also sheer, but with a cleaner design and no front pockets. Plus, it’s only $24.99.

I originally meant for this outfit to be a sloppy day, casual outfit. I woke up late for work and didn’t feel like dressing up or washing my hair, hence the pony tail. But it just goes to show that your best outfit may be one you throw together with little effort. That’s why they call it effortless chic.

The wonderful people at Cirque du Soleil treated local Las Vegas bloggers, which included my husband and me, to a special night at “Zumanity.” Even though I live in glamorous Sin City, I’m not a show kind of girl. Until “Zumanity,” I had never seen a Cirque show. And now, I can’t wait to see it again. I absolutely LOVED it. It’s sexy, saucy and highly titillating. I knew it was going to be an erotic evening, so I dressed special for the occasion. I must have done something right, because at the meet and greet prior to the show, I got lots of compliments and attention from the performers, which was probably my favorite part of the whole evening.

If you’re on Twitter, be sure to follow @CirqueLasVegas for all the latest information on the fabulous Las Vegas Cirque shows. And check back Monday, as I post some “Zumanity” inspired fashion and a link to discounted tickets.

Outfit of the Week

This skirt is a recent purchase. I got it while at First Friday, which is a community arts event here in Las Vegas that occurs, well, every first Friday of the month. Located just outside the gates of First Friday is The Gypsy Den, an eclectic vintage store with great finds and featuring art, jewelry and photography from local artists. Las Vegas is short in supply of vintage stores, so I am very grateful for the  The Gypsy Den and encourage you to make the trip downtown to shop there next time you’re in Vegas.

Supporting local businesses, artists and community events is totally fashionable.
p.s. Isn’t my hair getting long? Major.

I love to wear a pop of color with black and white. Blue, yellow, green, orange or red. Any color goes with black and white. But, just a pop will do. It can be on your shoes, bag or belt. Or you can do what I did which is to wear my pop of color on my belt and in a blouse that peeks out from beneath my dress. A pop of color adds dimension to a black and white outfit. And layers add depth.

I bet you never knew fashion and style could be so complex.

I can’t believe it’s still cold here in Las Vegas. Okay, it’s not cold-cold, but cold enough that I need to wear a sweater. This one by Elan is actually a convertible drape. I can wear it loose, tie it in the front or drape a corner over my shoulder. So versatile.

I love having options.

Outfit of the Week

The story behind this outfit is that I was going for that whole neutral look that’s so hot right now and for spring. And, I wanted to show that you can go neutral without looking like you’re going on a safari or looking drab. Texture and layers add dimension and the right shoes can add pizazz. And, I LOVE these shoes. I got them on RueLaLa.com. They were marked down to $69, but I had a $20 credit, so I got them for only $49. Normally, these shoes retail for around $200.

When you shop Rue La La, you can’t help but say “Ooo-la-la” at all the great deals.

Outfit of the Week

Our current economic climate (which I won’t call a recession, because there’s still debate about that) has really influenced today’s fashion. For instance, Prairie Chic is totally hot right now. When I spotted this tiny floral print wrap dress at Buffalo Exchange, I knew I would invoke the spirit of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I’m so Little House on the Prairie.

Just call me Half Pint.

Outfit of the Week

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I wore some cute outfits this week, but nothing that felt like it was worthy of the Outfit of the Week title. So come Friday, you can imagine how much pressure I put on myself to put together an Outfit of the Week. I mean, it was my last chance. As such, I had to resort to THE pink boots. Everyone loves these boots. How could you not? They’re loud and scream, “Look at me!” So, look at me. I’ve got my Outfit of the Week.
