Now’s the time to discover Benefit Cosmetics’ They’re Real! mascara and push-up liner. Both products have created a buzz among beauty junkies, magazine editors, and bloggers alike. And it was after hearing the chatter, filled with compliments and raves, that I gave both a try at the same time by purchasing The Real Steal.
The Real Steal is a duo set that includes a full-size They’re Real! mascara and mini push-up liner along with a sample remover, all for only $24. That is a steal of a deal!
They’re Real! Mascara is clearly the jewel of the line. It goes on smooth and creamy, like a dream. It doesn’t clump and adds beautiful length to my lashes. The mascara works great on those days when you’re wearing tons of makeup for a glamorous style and looks just as good on those lazy days when you’re wearing very little makeup.
The applicator brush is a silicone tube (I’m assuming it’s silicone, being that I work for a sex toy company, I think I know silicone when I feel it) with spiky nubs and a bulbous tip. A little alien-looking, the mascara’s applicator actually works really well. It doesn’t take much to see the mascara work, but I like applying a lot, because I am a total mascara addict.
They’re Real! mascara works well with other products, too, as I do like to experiment with layering different formulas of mascara. Currently, I enjoy applying They’re Real! thickly all over my top lashes. Then I add Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash to my top outer lashes only. And I use L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes on my bottom lashes. See? I told you I’m a mascara addict.
Now the They’re Real! Push-Up Liner is really interesting. Just as versatile as the mascara, the eyeliner offers a thin, beautiful look that is tight to your lash line and makes your eyes pop when used with mascara. But it can also be used for a gorgeous pinup girl style cat eye look; so you can go either thick or thin with this liner tool. The applicator is also silicone (again, an assumption) with an angled cut. Twist at the bottom to release the product into the silicone tip.
The product may require practice, depending on your eye lining skills. I first played on my hand, familiarizing myself with the soft silicone applicator tip and experimenting with creating thin and think lines. Because the liner formulation is gel, you will experience flaking if you don’t clean off the applicator tip prior to application. So before you use it each time, twist at the bottom just a little, write on the back of your hand or on a clean piece of paper to clean off the applicator tip and remove any dry, flaky formula.
Once They’re Real! Push-Up Liner is on, it’s on for good. This product does not flake during the day, nor does it smudge. However, it does become difficult to remove, which is why the sample remover inside The Real Steal is quite handy.
Whether I use a little or a lot, I find the products used together give me a great set of eyes, which is why I’m glad I bought the duo set. If you’re on the hunt for a mascara and eyeliner duo that works, and you’d like to save some money, too, then give The Real Steal a try. Purchase it at Sephora.
