My Personal Review: Editors’ Closet

After stirring up some controversy when I had a reader guest post her review of Editors’ Closet, I posted a follow-up article when I was contacted by the team at this sample sale website who wanted to clear the air and address customers’ concerns.

I still receive comments on that older blog post, some of them complaints. But, I thought it might be beneficial if readers could get my own personal opinion of what it’s like to shop at Editors’ Closet. I placed my first Editors’ Closet order in January.

To begin with, I had $15 worth of credit at Editors’ Closet from referred customers who made purchases at the site after receiving an invitation from me to join. I selected to shop for accessories and I discovered some crystal-adorned leather cuffs from a brand called Rock & Bone (not to be confused with Rag & Bone). I chose a black cuff with black crystals, and with my credit, I paid an additional $29 to cover the difference and shipping, which was $9. I wish the shipping was a little lower, but at least it’s not $12, like at Gilt.com.

After placing my order I received an email stating the item would be shipped within 7-10 days. Note that I said shipped. The email didn’t say that I would receive it in 7-10 business days, but that it wouldn’t leave the warehouse for another 7-10 business days. So, I knew I had to be patient and guessed it would be about two weeks before I received my cuff.

Sure enough, two weeks later I received my cuff, along with a dust bag for me to store it in, which I didn’t expect and was pleasantly surprised. I love my cuff. The leather is super soft and it’s a well-made piece. None of the crystals are loose nor have fallen off. Until I purchased this piece, I had never heard of Rock & Bone. But, I am quite happy with my cuff. And, I’m satisfied with my Editors’ Closet experience. In fact, my cuff made it as part of an Outfit of the Week.

Would I recommend Editors’ Closet to others and will I go back to make another purchase? Yes. But I would also mention that shipping is a little high and patience is required. Otherwise, I think Editors’ Closet is just as acceptable as any other sample sale website. But… my favorites are still Gilt.com, RueLaLa.com and Hautelook.com. That hasn’t changed.

Rock & Bone leather cuff with crystals.

I’ve shopped at Editors’ Closet a few times and so far it has been good! Just like you said, I received notice after the sale that my item would be shipped in 7-10 days… Carmen Marc Valvo… yumm :)

If I’m getting a discount of like 70% off then it’s worth the two week wait (they came yesterday!!). The shipping is higher than I’d want :( but I totally forgot that Gilt was $12! So I guess not so bad?!

Thanks so much for your feedback, luciicul. I get many complaints about Editors’ Closet, and I’d like to see more positive feedback. I’m with you on the wait time, especially considering what you save.

I just read the other post with everyone else’s comments and posted it there too if that is ok! Always happy to share :) I feel like Editors’ Closet has been doing a lot of beauty sales lately- do you know anything about that?

I don’t know much about the surge of beauty sales at Editors’. However, I’ve noticed this trend at ALL of the sample sale sites. In fact, I took advantage of a Smashbox sale at Gilt.com a few months ago. I think what we’re seeing is that the beauty brands are seeing sample sale sites as a great way to sell off excess product. And, of course, we as consumers benefit greatly!

Editors closet sells fake purses. I spent $750.00 dollars on a $50.00 fake. This purse is a joke and i had it examined and it is for sure fake.It is supposed to be Ostrich and is imprinted crap. They have ignored all my requests for a refund.Do not trust these people or there goods.Kathy

I am going to retract what I said about editors closet. The purse manufacturer has taken care of the problem and the purse is not fake. It turns out that the quality is substandard.I am sorry if this has caused anyone any problem.

Kathy, I am so glad that your issue with your purchase is being resolved, and so quickly after you posted your comment on my blog. My own experience with Editors’ Closet was positive, and I hope that your next one with the retailer will be, too.

Editor’s Closet is the worst sample sale site I have ever used. I have attempted to buy things from them on several occassions and each time received an e-mail that they purchase had gone through only to be notified later that they do not have the item in stock. This has happened at least three times. I will never ever use them again. Gilt and Hautelook are soooo much better. I would not recommend this site to any one ever!!!!!!

Gilt, Hautelook and RueLaLa are by far my favorites. I’ve also shopped IvoryTrunk.com and had a good experience there, too.

OMG Laura I just went over to Ivory Trunk at your recommendation and ordered a fabulous pair of Jimmy Choo Shoes. But thier site looks suspiciously like editors, I hope they are not the same people, or I’m sure I’ll be sadly disappointed yet again…

First time ordering from Editors Closets, so far, not a good experience.

Ordered a dress on 8/22. My credit was charged, I got no confirmation email and they have no record of my sale, name or contact. I’m waiting for one last follow up from Editors Closet. I’m a bit suspicious as there are various phone numbers listed in NY, FL and toll free numbers. Hopefully, I can get this cleared up with my credit card.

I agree with other readers, Gilt, Hautelook, Rue La La and Ideeli are my favorite. I never had any problems with them.

My experience with Editor’s Closet has been less than favorable compared to Gilt. After Editor’s Closet updated their website’s security, I was no longer able to see who I invited to the site. My 2 $25 credits also mysteriously became 2 $0 credits. I have been emailing Editor’s Closet back and forth for 2 weeks now, and they have yet to resolve the problem (or even acknowledge that their is a problem). I would not recommend this website to anyone.

I had also a bad experience with Editor’s Closet. Bought a Chloe item, then got my confirmation email and charges to my credit card. Later on I get an email saying the item is not on stock. I have yet to check that the charge is not there… but it is annoying to think that you got the item, to then have them tell you…sorry we dont have any left. I have never had any issues with Gilt, RueLaLa or others.
