WOMEN'S LIFESTYLE BLOG: Style, Shopping, Health, Home, Career, and Las Vegas Life

Now Open: Benè

There’s a new good-doer on the fashion scene, fashionistas. If you are one of those shoppers who finds satisfaction in doing something good while shopping for something pretty, it’s time you meet Benè

Committed to creating sustainable educational opportunities that empower girls in Ghana, Benè just launched on May 1st. After reading the brand’s story and seeing the beauty of its product, my heart is reeling with excitement for Benè. It HAS to succeed. It has to be as big TOMS.

Okay, here’s the deal. You  buy a scarf and you help a girl in Ghana get an education. I mean, how cool is that? But here’s where it gets even cooler, you get to DESIGN the scarf yourself!

So, first you start off by choosing the style of scarf you’d like. You get five options from skinny to a full-on shawl, with prices ranging from $45 to $85.

I prefer the skinny style scarf. As you begin to create your scarf, take note of the price. You’ll see why later. And more importantly, take note of what step one really means – making the decision to educate and empower a young girl.

Now, select your print. See those beautiful young women pictured next to each print? Yes. These are the faces of the girls who benefit from your purchase. I’m choosing the print named after Felicia. She’s 16, and she wants to grow up to be a mid-wife and help others. At this point, I can see that I’m contributing to her tuition, books and supplies for one year. I can’t turn back now. Oh, and continue to keep your eye on that price. Notice that it doesn’t change.

Now, it’s time to choose a trim. If you’re a minimalist, you can select a simple hem. But, I prefer beads. Again… the price hasn’t gone up one bit. At this point, after selecting a print and beads, you would think the price would increase. But it doesn’t. There are no surprises here.

“We enjoy helping others and love being fashionable yet comfortable in our own skin. We believe that every girl should have access to an education, despite where they were born. We believe that we can do our part in providing a hope and a future in the girls lives we support,” say Co-Founders Michelle Blue and Sasha Matthews, featured at the top of this post.

Between warm season wardrobe building, Mother’s Day, graduations, weddings and birthdays, you’ve got lots of shopping to do this spring. Plan for at least one of your purchases to be a fashion item that does something good for mankind. Add Benè to your shopping radar now. Shop at www.benebyyou.com
